ANOTHER earthquake last night! Hit around midnight. Jason was in the water, and rumor has it the shrimp had a mild freakout and then we felt it on the ship a few seconds later. Photo shows shrimp post-freakout, so you'll just have to imagine it.

Not one but TWO earthquakes felt on the RV Atlantis! Live feed from ROV Jason shows that the shrimp at 2500m felt the earthquake seconds before we did. Happy to report that both Jason and the shrimp are marked safe.

I thought **incorrectly** no way you could feel earthquakes on a ship.
@whoi#Cayman2020 research expedition was on site for rumbling and on the seafloor shortly after to find toppled hydrothermal chimneys.#Mindblownhttps://twitter.com/shu251/status/1222669350886432769 …

Earthquake update #2: so much stuff in the water! Transmissivity (green line) shows how clear the water is, and you can see all the stuff in the water near the seafloor. Jason pic shows a few particles too. It's like an earthquake-induced deep sea blizzard!

THIS was very weird to feel on RV Atlantis. Can someone explain to me why we felt this??

So.... the latest scuttlebutt is that we just felt an earthquake. The whole ship was rumbling for a good minute. Earthquake off the coast of Cuba, apparently. Who knew you could feel an earthquake at sea?!

And away we grow! The DEEP team is comparing enrichments grown at in situ pressure and ambient pressure. Does decompression matter? We'll find out...

ROV Jason has been hanging with the denizens of the deep all day. The denizens at the top of the ocean are in slightly more pleasant conditions.

CHECK. OUT. THESE. VENTS! ROV Jason has arrived at Piccard, home to the deepest and (in my humble opinion) gnarliest vents in the world. These guys were venting at 396˚C when we were sampling!

ROV Jason is sampling gorgeous chimneys from nearly 5,000m deep at the Piccard Hydrothermal Vent Field- the deepest known in the world!

Had a few issues with Jason that had to get ironed out today, but that meant we got to watch Jason deployments during the day AND at night! ROV is in the water for real this time, we think. Next up: more vents!
