My main take away, as ever, is anyone lurking tonight and reading these threads would have a real sense of what a wonderful, supportive & inclusive, selfless community we have . I know I couldn't do half as much as I do without this support

Please join me in thanking & for an awesome job hosting tonight. Tonight was our 180th chat since our very 1st on 15/09/15. Without your continued support, would not be possible! THANK YOU!

Love this - totally agree 😍, 100% - we should be building the confidence of non-specialist teachers with this so they don't crumble under the pressure

A5: There are many - Communities NCCE courses and of course

A4 great question. Honestly I think it should be approached like any other lesson. It’s the fear that puts teachers off. Start small and know where you want to end up. Which is just great teaching. But it’s important to just take the risk.

A4: I think by using PRIMM or similar for teachers too is a great start, by modifying a program it will help to understand programming and build confidence

A4 As I have always said about this question. - Take your time, build understanding, read before you write, spend time with difficult concepts using a range of activities and pedagogic approaches. It's not all about game making and remixing massive projects.

A4 good question. I think it's important to allow students to make mistakes and model how to fix them rather than jumping in to show 'the right way'. Need to encourage problem solving, resilience and creativity rather than just copying working solutions

computational art can be beautiful, and can start from a simple loop in scratch A3

Absolutely. Isaac Computer Science was adapted from Isaac Physics. Says much for the maturity (and youth) of the people teaching the subject too that we're so willing to adopt/adapt approaches from other subjects to ensure computing is taught in the best ways possible.

  16. A3 Great question. Science seems obvious, modelling, analysing experimental data etc. but I like the idea of English e.g. letter frequency analysis, or parsing a sentence for correct grammar. Learning Syntax on many levels!

A3: I think there are many Science and D&T links. I like using the modelling the Solar System Scratch Project, and we are looking at using a Crumble controller to make fairground rides this term. We also use Scratch to explore 2D shapes and angles.

  18. Odgovor korisniku/ci

Yes, we're a young subject, we can learn a lot from other subjects we can adapt to our own subject. Like I say, PRIMM and Pair Programming are two pedagogical concepts that work, but much of the rest of the curriculum is still up for grabs, pedagogically! A2

  19. 4. velj

A2 My background is SEMH so the resilience and Growth Mindset elements really chime with me, as do the Creative elements-seeing the vast skillset and interests of individuals and being able to harness those and 'add a little Tech' is always my aim

  20. A2: Other subjects' pedagogy is usually much more mature, they know about sequencing, interleaving and telling a story. I love our school History curriculum and have started to adapt my own, I've introduced "Enquiry Questions" for all KS3 topics.
