    A1) Picture books, or any read aloud, should be about the experience. The listening. The imagination. The ability to get away from reality, into a place where the story is immersive. It should be a point of enjoyment and hope, 1st & foremost ⛹️‍♂️🦸🏻‍♀️

    A2: I will never understand why we stop reading to/with kids of any age. One things I have admired about is his insatiable desire to keep his HS kiddos engaged with picture books! When I was in HS, I performed picture books thru storytelling competitions.

    A2: Picture books often open the door for discussion of topics because there are different interpretations illustrated relating to the topic presented. Using picture books in upper grade levels can help students learn to examine & discuss different perspectives.

    A1: What I find when it's time to read is LET THE KIDS TALK. When we dig in and encourage them to imagine how the characters in the story are feeling and what they want or need, then we elevate in ways that we can't even imagine!

    A2 So many picture books can bring to light many themes in many MS/HS novels. They can also be tied to so many current events. It is up to educators to find those links, use the picture books and bring the family & community together in unpacking truths & lessons.
