Today marks the 107th birthday of civil rights activist Rosa Parks. Parks had a pivotal role in the history of the civil rights movement after she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a public bus for a white man.

Sanitary pads were developed by a Black woman named Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner of Monroe, NC. The first company that showed interest rejected it because of racial discrimination. It was later accepted in 1956, 30 years later. Mary received five patents.
