Spotted pardalotes are one of my absolute favourites. Their delicate polka dots are too adorable! Often seen high up in the canopy, we were lucky to get one in the nets.

The face of a Brown Creeper for your consideration. Found in woodlands, Brown Creepers are tiny white-dappled brown birds with slender bills and long tails. They like to spiral their way up large trees, probing at loose bark and crevices for insects.

Last weekend when I was banding at Palo we had an unusual visitor to our mistnets - a banded Cooper’s Hawk! Catching a Coop in a net designed for small passerines is uncommon, and it’s even more uncommon to catch a banded bird from a different banding station. 1/3

Anyone interested in doing some banding with me in Ecuador? We are currently looking for both experienced banders and people looking for more banding experience/training!

So grateful to
@RockyPointBird for another great year banding birds during fall migration! We banded 7400 passerines and now over 800 northern saw-whet owls in 2019
A major highlight of course was the vagrant Brown Shrike, first ever banded in Canada #ornithology#birdbanding pic.twitter.com/ooyrFd8hnQ

#BirdBanding is a valuable method of studying wild birds and helps scientists decide how we can better help their populations. But handling wild animals requires a lot of training to keep both people and animals safe, and doing so without a permit is dangerous and illegal! 1/n pic.twitter.com/EjNJhu49Z6

We chase Canada Warblers but some days we get everything but them... Does it sound familiar? Dear Cerulean Warbler and Summer Tanager: you guys should be in the canopy, but we’re happy to have you in our Canada Warbler nets!

Look who's been visiting my yard! I was able to get the band number from my photos and report it to Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. He was banded 60 miles from my home as a hatch year bird three years ago.
