    Let’s start off w/ some perspective. 60 years ago TODAY, the started the sit-ins at Woolworth’s in Greensboro, NC. The four young men were students at North Carolina A&T. These sit ins lasted til July and sparked a movement of sit-ins across the country.

    On the first day of , an important reminder: Black history is American history. We all have a responsibility to both examine the injustices of our past and address the injustices of our present.

    In Bristol, UK, we had a bus boycott in 1963, campaigning against the Bristol Omnibus Company for refusing to hire Black drivers and conductors. The successful campaign had a direct impact on the forming of Race Relations Act, which came into UK law two years later.

    Gwendolyn Brooks was a poet, author, & teacher. Her work often dealt with the personal celebrations & struggles of ordinary people in her community. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1950, for Annie Allen, making her the first African American to receive one.

    These sit-ins helped reverse Woolworth’s segregated policies on shopping & eating at lunch counters. The late Franklin McCain is the grandfather of Franklin “Mac” McCain III, arguably top HBCU prospect for the 2021 NFL Draft.
