Curfew approved last night. I dissented. Not an easy choice. But peaceful protests are being met with brutality & journalists are being attacked for telling their stories. Rights to freedom of assembly & press are in shambles. This is no time to curtail civil liberties.

BART’s last station profile study was 2015 but at that time only 25% of N Berkeley riders were traveling there from home by driving themselves, and many of them for less than one mile. With only 1% arriving by bus/transit there’s huge potential for mode shift.

At a Berkeley ZAB meeting where the city clarified this counts as an “essential meeting”. They’ve spent the last 5+ minutes talking about the color of the addition to someone’s house. The neighbor doesn’t like the color the owner wants to use. This. Is. Broken.

This Ashby/San Pablo item is pretty frustrating too. I assume to “widen” Ashby & add a left turn lane they’ll have to narrow the sidewalks & remove the street trees. As opposed to a 4-to-3 road diet w/in the existing curb line for much cheaper?

  10. I support taxing rideshare but by itself it'll probably do the most good by helping bankrupt rideshare out the street, not finance anything. Berkeleyans need to see free weekend parking eliminated, gas tax, and property & transfer taxes come November to save AC Transit

Spoke at council on the lack of movement in developing the zero waste strategic plan, which our office recommended in 2014. Without a plan, it will be difficult to address various climate initiatives like SB1383 on composting, single use disposables & transfer station.

Unhoused people need healthcare. If they have asthma get them a doctor. If they have respiratory illness get them a doctor. This means invest in public health. Not just giving out masks to some.
