    Great thread to read that explains (again) the problem with mass standardized tests being used as ranking/accountability measures. Same problem, different province.

    Read several tweets about standardized testing and teacher performance which is interesting since it’s raised often when something like the Frase Institute report comes out ranking schools regardless of context. Teachers feel the pressure of these exams /1

    I was fired from for refusing to approve a budget that included cutting the district’s entire elementary band & strings program. We were replaced by government-appointed trustee who approved the cut. What a terrible decision.

    Osoyoos’ new nature-based playground is made out of all wood, has 8 swings and is surrounded by rocks and logs. Facilities like these provide safe places for students to play and gain physical literacy – 1 of 101 new playgrounds across the province funded by our government

    The class size & composition language that some lower mainland districts have is all thanks to teachers who GAVE UP salary more than a decade ago to ensure better learning conditions for students. Now that we have the language back, we want to make them better, not worse.

    There is zero chance of a new contract for B.C. teachers by the end of the school year, as originally planned, after bitter round of negotiations.

    When I was in Grade 5 at Tomsett, I won a speech contest and spoke at a huge conference about how we should build and stop using portables. Today, I got this release about how $11.38M is being invested at Tomsett "to prevent the use of portables." WE DID IT!

    The BC NDP budget for educ is a status quo Liberal budget. Money into is from Supreme Court ruling. allocated $4 B in new funding in 2017 platform. Our students need a govt that does more than just talk a good talk about the value of educ.

    How does the lack of class size language in a school district present an 'organizational challenge' to a school district that does have class size language in their contract with teachers? Which 'organization' is being 'challenged' by 'the varied approach'? How? Why? 1/

    So according to Alan Chell the concessions are needed because Trustees have “organizational challenges”. Really? What happens when the $ get cut and the CC are not in the CA? I would say that this is a harder challenge.
