    These are all Sacred Kingfishers! Most of the field guides don’t show their full range of colours - variation is due to age, sex, how worn the feathers are & the angle of light.

    Sacred Kingfisher, its back and wings a rich turquoise colour almost glowing in the sunlight.

    It's called the Varied Sittella because there are various forms around Australia. In the south-east we have the orange-winged, as seen when it flies or it stretches its wing like this.
