  7. On in 1942, people in and around Fort Benton were mourning the loss of Shep, the dog who stood vigil for 5-1/2 years after his master’s casket left by train. A bronze statue was created by Bob Scriver in 1992. Do you remember?

    Since it was super popular, here is the hunting cheetah from Qubilai Qa'an's famous hunting painting. Cheetah keepers were tax exempt, like falconers. See Thomas Allsen's The Royal Hunt in Eurasian History for more great details!

    A smiley Orkhon breed sheep. The first Mongolian made hybrid breed, work started in the late 1940s and intensified in the mid 1950s during collectivization. It was officially recogonized in 1961, along with the head architect of the breed, T. Ayuurzana.
