@NatRecordsScot yday was so peaceful but my mind is still buzzing from this WAPWG event
. So many provocative discussions about preserving interactive fiction, internet art, the ethics of archiving social media, & other complex content.

Really interesting discussion about the ethical viability of archiving social media and twitter in particular. Would the use of data for research put people at risk? Do the current T&C's give us enough justification to archive the tweets and make them available?

COSMOS (http://socialdatalab.net/cosmos ) developed to create and analyse tweet datasets for social scientists, but could be used by archivists at universities and not-for-profits with other use cases (?)

Interesting -
@socdatalab are working on a feature to store the metadata for a COSMOS search (time, date, search terms, version). So until then, best if users carefully record such metadata manually.#WAPWG20 -
Great fun at
#WAPWG20 today, collecting tweets about climate change with COSMOS live! In real time! Right now!@socdatalab@DrLukeSloan -
@DrLukeSloan is now giving us a really interesting demo of Cosmos, an alternative to the Twitter API that can help archivists to capture and analyse Twitter data. So many possibilities to put this to some really good use!#wapwg20 pic.twitter.com/dudi5Bxjp9

.
@DrLukeSloan points out that collecting Twitter data is relatively easy. Creating something organised and useful is the real challenge#wapwg20 -
Ooh impressive, hearing about COSMOS tool from
@socdatalab@DrLukeSloan for gathering twitter data (aimed at social science uses) . Free of charge to academic users (in the UK...?) .#WAPWG20 -

@DrLukeSloan from@socdatalab discusses the usefulness of Twitter data for research and what Twitter data actually is. Fascinating insight for#digipres and#webarchiving folk looking to capture and preserve something useful and meaningful#wapwg20 pic.twitter.com/2SWxg14Jd9

Right after a very nice lunch Lynda Clark tells us about the challenges of capturing interactive fiction. Ties in really nicely with the talk by Giulia Rossi from the British Library.

There was just some talk about archiving from GitHub. It made me think of the fact that GitHub has started the Arctic Code Vault for archiving code. https://archiveprogram.github.com/

Karin de Wild is making me appreciate the complexities around variants/iterations of Internet Art and how different museums can collect different variations of the same work.
