More strike action called. Why can we not be more creative about industrial action? Complete withdrawal from all admin work and complete disengagement from anything REF-related? Hit universities where it really hurts!

If you’re a member following me who is outraged at the way our union has repeatedly failed on PLEASE vote for Holly Smith for London & SE rep, and Shereen Benjamin for HEC. Turnout traditionally low, this could make big difference.

But also obvious ones so why don't go creative rather than staying one-dimensional?

Seeing others also making this kind of case to so retweeting to support

More strike action due as members act to make universities liveable for staff and students.

  8. Academics do lots of free labour (e.g. For research councils) and civic labour (I.e. externalling at effectively sub-minimum wage rates). If we withdraw this labour which is also extra-contractual then the HE teaching and research governance practice is screwed.

    - average UK pay rises at the end of last year, 3.4%. Our current offer, 1.8%, is almost half of this.

  10. I just sent an email that mentioned the upcoming industrial action, except I accidentally called it the industrial revolution and now I can't stop chortling to myself

This means my students will miss 3 weeks of lectures, and I’ll lose 3 weeks of research time, all because the unis refused to budge on pensions and pay. This is on them.

Another strike! Naturally, scheduled when I'm giving a paper ☹️ I understand why this needs to happen but I'm thoroughly fed up with all of this. I'm sure we all are, but during each strike, I'm isolated & alone as I can't afford to strike

It's happening again...the are striking during the last month of term! This will be for 14 days, at 74 UK universities, including the University of Warwick! Here is their reasoning below: Let us know your thoughts!

Interested to know if people think 14 days of industrial action really makes much more of a difference than say 5 or 8 days re negotiations? Because as an hourly-paid ecr this is pretty punishing. but also rent...

Staff at 74 universities across the UK are to strike for 14 days in February & March. A second wave of cancelled lectures to be faced by over 1 million students! Absolute joke!

*Key that HEC elections seen in this light*. Election statements – maybe even my own😊 – are often lists of propositions no member disagrees with. Do HEC candidates support asking 'grassroots' members to make final call on taking proposed strike action? I'd be a 'yes'.

Also breaking: UUK and UCEA fail to make significant moves on workload pressures, pay, pensions & v little movement on gender/race pay gap and precarity. forced to take more strike action.

Since my university once again narrowly missed the required turn-out for strike action & I'm one of the very lucky people to be on a permanent contract with decent working conditions, I have just donated to the strike fund. I urge others in my position to do the same. 2/2
