    For your pleasure on .... a chondrule that has been half ablated on entry through Earth’s atmosphere. Fusion crust visible! Phroar.

    It looked way cooler before hand-grinding down to ~30μm. Minerals that are thicker have higher birefringence, hence the bright colours in all the quartz and feldspar.

    I present my very first thin section - a Palaeogene granite from the Mourne Mountains. Quartz, perthitic feldspar, biotite, opaques, sphene, and some tiny zircons! It's been a long time since I got this excited looking at a thin section of granite!

    This is my and here is a muscovite, biotite, chlorite, staurolite, garnet schist from the Himalayas. The staurolite isn't a happy bunny and looks like it is breaking down.

  18. Yosemite in the collections! Accessories in the El Capitan granodiorite: bright zircon, with brownish titanite, greenish altered biotite, and colourless-grey quartz. FOV ca. 0.5mm wide.

    Not but I sliced it 2 mins ago. Altered greywacke cut by early quartz veining cut by calcite + barite (+other tiny things). Collected from New Glencrieff mine dump by at the weekend.
