    I hope my fellow English ACLs in the TDSB have long said goodbye to this book which treats black characters as objects, never subjects--never protagonists. Yet every once in a while I hear otherwise.

    2. is taught in grade 9 Academic English classes. Is the “splendid light of bigotry”shone on the missing black Ss who are streamed out of these classes? Isn’t this also “critical thinking” or should it be dismissed as “identity ideology”

    The problem w teaching To Kill a Mockingbird to 8th grade is that they are hormonal monsters for whom everything is a peen joke. I just got to the “bantam cock” part and now I dread tomorrow. Things I never noticed before have new meaning.
