    election shows it’s not the economy, stupid. In US, economists have pointed to income inequality as factors that contributed to populism. Sweden is different. The country is growing faster than EU, and has one of the lowest Gini coefficient.

    General election in today. Many say historic one as anti-immigration Sweden Democrats set to get best results in years. They made crime their main focus and blamed immigrants for problems. Is this right wing party actually RIGHT? My report

    bye bye ! It seems the Sweden Democrats may have taken about 20% of the vote. That means, I’m afraid, that 80% of the people are indeed happy with the way their country is going! The Swedes will now have to suffer the consequences. They had the chance and did not take it.

    I dislike 'populism' as a label. It seems to sanitise the values of authoritarianism & bigotry-fuelled nationalism. It says 'these are popular things'. Much prefer the phrase 'salvation politics', which nails the fictitious, faith-based qualities of fear-led solutions.

    Yesterday we got a chance to go to a Swedish Polling station to observe how Swedes vote. Their process is so simple, no biometrics, no police, no long processes. Voter papers are out in the open without somebody manning them. As Africans we were amazed

    This is crazy to see - nearly 80% of voters in Rinkeby near Stockholm which is nearly 90% immigrant votes for socialists. Buying votes works well. This is your future, if you don’t wake up.

    No « populist wave » in , and it’s great news, even if the Centre-left and the Centre-right may need a bit of Swedish patience to find a ruling scheme. And good that the so-called « Sweden Democrats », with their dirty roots in the racist and nazi fringe, were defeated.
