My favourite 3 shots of the Surf Scoter from Friday. Porthloo. Doubt I will ever see one this close again! You can just make out some red colour coming out on the bill

A couple of photos from my trip to Scilly over the last couple of days. Hermit Thrush and Surf Scoter both showed well, as you can see!

‘Storm Brendan’ peaking on Scilly yesterday afternoon, filmed from the relative shelter of my seawatching ‘cave’ on Peninnis. Very little moving but fulmar and guillemot were new additions for the year

The past two days have produced a spectacular arrival of winter thrushes in to Scilly! Thousands of redwings and fieldfare filling the sky, fields and hedgerows. This c.200-strong fieldfare flock came from height and dropped in at Salakee this evening

A good seawatch off Peninnis between 15.10-17.10 in a solid force 9! No big numbers but two Leach’s storm-petrels and a Balearic shearwater, all impressively close in, provided some quality!

With a slight drop in wind this afternoon came the welcome emergence of a Siberian chiffchaff, in and around the tamarisks at Porthloo, feeding alongside a standard collybita chiff and a couple of black redstarts
