    Interesting points re Berlin potentially seizing homes back from REIT’s: 1. Germany hasn’t ratified CETA. 2. If we ratify CETA as is advocating we’ll be sued by our largest landlord, the Canadian funded IRES REIT should we try do similar.

    Berlin just voted in favour of seizing up to 200.000 homes from private real estate companies and transferring them into public ownership.

    The only important line here is: "During exchanges, the Tánaiste admitted IRES Reit would be able to sue Ireland over such a policy in the proposed new Investor courts if Ceta is ratified." The rest is fluff from the Tánaiste.

    If you care about and rent controls, then you need to care about

    Leo Varadkar admitted to me in Committee that if we ratify CETA, the Candian company which owns IRES REIT could sue the Irish state in a special investor court system if we introduce further rent controls. If that's not a reason to reject CETA, I don't know what is.
