I’m not sure what the objective in this push is tbh - the
@IPCC_CH#SROCC showed an envelope, reflecting the available science. Box SPM1 explained this clearly (it faces the figure in the SPM, so is hardly ‘fine print’). Its up to policy makers to make their decisions. https://twitter.com/peters_glen/status/1223158474802069504 …

The wording that was agreed on in government approval of
#SROCC was: “RCP8.5 is a high greenhouse gas emissions scenario in the absence of policies to combat climate change, leading to continued and sustained growth in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. “@hausfathhttps://twitter.com/hausfath/status/1222933823756759041 …

Here is the not so fine print:
@IPCC_CH#SROCC SPM Box 1 - use of scenarios in SROCC. Find it here: https://www.ipcc.ch/srocc/chapter/summary-for-policymakers/ … See also the more comprehensive Cross-Chapter box 1 in Chapter 1 - Scenarios, Pathways and Reference Periods https://twitter.com/Peters_Glen/status/1223158474802069504 …pic.twitter.com/zgYyYNy6uu

It was a deliberate choice in
@IPCC_CH#SROCC to focus on two scenarios RCP8.5 and RCP2.6, hence about 50% each. The reason is that the underlying literature mostly contrasts these two scenarios. https://twitter.com/RogerPielkeJr/status/1222874778920341504 …

[8/9] Consequences: melt ice from bottom, bleach coral reefs, rise sea level, fuel storms, reduce ocean dissolved oxygen, increase extremes/marine heat waves etc. These stresses pose high risks to biodiversity/fisheries, and cause economic losses. Ocean links to many

[7/9] Ocean seems far away from many people but it is linked to everyone: the ocean covers 71% of the Earth surface and contains ~97% of the water on our planet. It is a key component of the climate system (together with atmosphere, land and cryosphere) that we depend on.

@SylviaEarle & I could not agree more with the#SROCC message. Thank you to the Ocean & Earth scientists who put together the @IPCC_CH & @IPBES reports. Be assured we will make good use of them. Action is now!#COP25#SDG14pic.twitter.com/gDLJzSBfF6

As a result of
#climatechange, our ocean is losing oxygen, while becoming warmer and more acidic. These changes affect marine life. https://www.ipcc.ch/srocc/#SROCC#COP25#COP25Madrid#Cop25Madrid2019pic.twitter.com/whKXeo3HsJ
