Democrats stopped voter suppression bill #SB7 by walking out and breaking quorum! This is a tremendous moment of resolve. The GOP will try again soon, but I love this fighting spirit. This is the energy we need to flip Texas.

TX Dems' walkout is looking like a huge success. It didn't just delay passage of #SB7, it put the bill's provisions in the news and embarrassed Republicans into backpedaling from several of them. The bill may well still pass in special session, but in a watered-down form.

Late last night as most families were settling in, #txlege Democrat legislators were wrestling with #SB7. Enough of us stood in solidarity against this anti-voting rights bill to stop it. The bill proposed to criminalize voter engagement & severely restrict access to polls.

Sunday, #txlege House Dems walked off the floor, blocking for now the #SB7 voter suppression bill. Their “Good Trouble” to defend democracy is reminiscent of my own participation in the “Killer Bees” breaking a quorum long ago to prevent interference in primary elections.🧵

From start to finish, the process to jam #SB7 through the #txlege has been rushed and shoddy. We shouldn’t be surprised that even now the final version of the bill has problems. The Lege should use its remaining hours to address the real needs of Texans, not on voter suppression.
