New gravitational-wave candidate, or maybe not?
#S190718y has a 98% probability of being due to noise, so I'm not too sure why it has been sent out https://gracedb.ligo.org/superevents/S190718y/view/ … Checks are currently underway Rating:

As month 5 of
#O3 begins here's our@LIGO@ego_virgo#GravitationalWaves calendar for July - with a total of seven more candidates (that's one almost every four days!) Except for#S190718y (most likely noise) the others are most probably merging#BlackHoles#7for7#O3isherepic.twitter.com/IouayJwleo

Latest
@LIGO@ego_virgo candidate is#S190718y, spotted by@LIGOLA@LIGOWA and@ego_virgo at 14:35:34 UTC. It's very likely to be noise (although if it *is* astronomical then it's most likely a#NeutronStars merger). Investigations ongoing. Retraction count (N=24) and non-rejected event count (N=56) for
#O3 are far from supportive that your O3 event rate is significant. Only N=4 O3 superevents considered astrophysical, >7 mo. since end of O3. 98% terrestrial event#S190718y still unretracted: https://mobile.twitter.com/Fulguritics/status/1261900304166993927 … -
The Circular for
#S190718y https://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/gcn3/25087.gcn3 The false alarm rate is 1.2 per year, which is pretty marginal. The source (if real) would probably be a binary neutron star. Since these are rare, it adds up to a low probability of this being real. Further checks are on-goingDeze collectie tonen -
Update on
#S190718y https://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/gcn3/25107.gcn3 There were some small glitches a few seconds before the merger time. However, these don't seem to affect anything: cutting them out gives similar results. The event remains most probably noiseDeze collectie tonen
