    This whole thread resonates so much. My Grandmother (Allah yirhama) told similar painful stories about her forced displacement from Palestine. These stories live on intergenerationally in so many ways.

    A few years ago I was sitting in the parking lot of Northgate mall with my mom. It was after my first year of university and we were reflecting on our life in Canada. Out of the blue, I decided to ask her about how she managed to escape the war in Somalia.

    Heartbreaking. They deserved better. Everyone is entitled to live in a place free of violence and hunger. Some of us got lucky and won the lottery of birth. This could have been anyone. No human being is ‘illegal’!!

    There are moments in time that define who we are and who we need to be. Refugees are fellow humans risking their lives for the safety and freedoms we often take for granted. Canada had this moment with and I really hope America finally has theirs.

    This is one of the best things I've seen at the theatre. Ever. 👏👏 Massive well done to the young people from . So impressive to stand on stage and share your thoughts & emotions. 💛

    Three of us friends-of-fam took our young Syrian Michigander friends swimming today (and gave Mom and Dad a break) and then we celebrated a 3rd birthday and I am very tired and full but happy.

    Since my dad died, 1/2 a yr ago I've traveled across, Britain, Europe & Canada to talk about my dad's wish to not make his past our future as well as finishing his book to make & a book about my life as the son to the World's Oldest Rebel.

    This we need to urgently talk about the moral crisis among our leaders, who are now trying to punish those helping refugees and migrants. Compassion and kindness should be celebrated, not criminalized.
