This owl, no bigger than a pop can, strikes fear into the hearts of any rodents nearby.

Happy
#SuperbOwl Sunday! Fun fact:@IBOatBoiseState collaborates globally with scientists to help conserve Short-eared Owl populations in the western United States. Another fun fact:#BoiseState has the country’s only masters program in#RaptorResearch. We

https://www.uq.edu.au/news/article/2020/01/new-umbrella%E2%80%99-species-would-massively-improve-conservation … The protection of Australia’s threatened species could be improved by a factor of seven, if more efficient ‘umbrella’ species were prioritised.... including the Red Goshawk! Based on their tracking data I can see why!

Stunning Red Goshawk juvenile now providing us with invaluable conservation information through GPS tracking

Going through nest cameras and found this gem. A young red-tailed hawk (right side of the frames) tried to grab a Swainson's Hawk nestling for an easy meal. Dad comes in to save the day - cue surprised red-tail.

We also got a gorgeous juvenile harrier (or as I like to call them, the pumpkin spice lattes of the marsh) who looks exceptionally regal for a bird who just got banded.

Winter trapping is off to a good start! Two adult females, a juvenile female, and a juvenile male. Good diversity for day one, but our target gray ghost remained elusive. *Trapped and banded with permits*

It’s that time of the season when hatch year birds are replaced by adult birds. This lovely adult female
#CoopersHawk stopped by to say
on her second migration south.
