T4: Developing a resident-led wellness committee along with implementation of “wellness days” for our residents is a start. Institutionally, we have the support and resources of our GME providing tools and “Core Curriculum Roadshow” for our training programs

T2- the greatest enemy to pursuing wellness can be a lack of immediate obvious financial benefit & measurable outcome to those asked to support it- despite the evidence otherwise!

T3: Physician burnout and mental health have reached a critical point. As PDs, it’s our responsibility be on the lookout for signs of burnout and depression in our trainees. Institutional resources should be readily available and anonymous

T3- I’ve heard of places that enable their trainees to have a visit w a mental health professional once a year as a default- having it already there lowers the barrier to actually do it
#RadResChat -
T1: Ongoing discussions/events throughout the year, both resident and faculty participation, and adequate funding.
#RadResChat -
T3: our system has a physician concierge program where you download an app and can request a variety of services (anything from counseling, help finding a tailor, one of our residents got her cat trimmed haha)
#RadResChat -
T4: we also have a brand new resident mentorship program (again, thanks
@AnnJayMD1 )#RadResChat -
#RadResChat T3. At once unconditional support AND anonymity are musts. Residents and fellows must feel confident their voices heard, needs met and identities protected. -

@UflRad Reading Room assistants prevent innumerable work interruptions. Most phone calls to reading rooms don’t need a physician’s attention.#RadResChat pic.twitter.com/s6vwVVkB6U

#RadResChat T4. So simple & impactful: 45 min noon conference (I know I know we still have one daily - that's a topic for another tweetchat) followed by 30 min well-being break daily for residents. QUESTION: do you assure your fellows have a mid day break? I am on a mission! -

@AnnJayMD1 has done a great job ramping up the#wellness at our program! She started the rad res wellness committee and is getting our mind body medicine program up and running. Takes us to cycling classes and other workouts too :) thanks Dr. Jay!#RadResChat -
Any mandatory module or canned video definitely destroys my soul and creates resentment for wasting my time. There has to be a better way to go about accomplishing our goals

Many wellness programs are intrinsically reactive to training environments that beget burnout by prioritizing non-value added work over edu and patient care. The emphasis needs to be on changing the work/edu process and not placing the burden on resident coping.
