DIVE ALERT! We're diving to Godzilla hydrothermal vent (depth 2184 metres) at Endeavour, Canada's 1st
#MarineProtectedArea. We'll reach bottom ~1.30pm PT where crabs live by#chemosynthesis, as there's no light for photosynthesis. Watch live http://bit.ly/ONCabyss#ONCabyss pic.twitter.com/pDAQCvzW4t -
Why is the ocean is blue? Water absorbs colours in the red part of the light spectrum. Like a filter, this leaves behind colours in the blue part of the light spectrum for us to see.

Introducing the TBOS = Toilet Brush of Science! Exploring the ocean takes many sophisticated, highly engineered, and expensive tools. But for some tasks, household items get the job done! Check out some used during

We’re half-way done this second leg of offshore maintenance cruises; after this final dive at Clayoquot Slope, we’re off to Barkley Canyon for a few days. Adrian Round from

After hours of excavating the mud from the caisson and setting in the accelerometer, now we watch glass beads pour out to hold everything in place. Empty it out, fill it up.

In 2016, various substrates were placed in this testing area at ~2200 m depth in the Endeavor Vent Field. The experiment aims to survey what kind of life would colonize on each substrate. There is control material (slate), loofahs, wood, and cow bone.
