Whilst this depiction was not meant to offend, it is a classic example of the type of unconscious biases and carelessness that occurs in a creative environment that is lacking the insight and benefits of true diversity and representation.

I'm as insulted as the next disabled person about Sia's new video. Especially as a filmmaker that works on actual disability representation. But please please please, can we stop sharing the video? It's literally just re-traumatization. Especially right after

As a kid, I saw a TV character with a hook, just like mine! Then they scratched someone with it and I worried people would be afraid of me. ~2 decades later, I'm disappointed to see make characters "scarier" through limb differences.

As someone who, like my friend Grace, grew up with a limb difference this is 💔and I worry about all the kids this will impact. Not only to see themselves as a monster but also seen that way by their classmates. I am not a monster because I am different.

    PLEASE READ!

As a mom if a child with a #limbdifference I was horrified to hear that @wbpictures has created the @roald_dahl novel Witches movie and the leading character played by @annehathaway has a limb difference that is feared, hidden, and mocked. Grace has worked hard to gain confidence, we have worked with her since she was a baby to foster independence, confidence, and a positive sense of self.
These kiddos already grow up in a world where they’re stared at, laughed at, pointed at, and bullied.
The original novel never depicted a limb difference on any of the witches.
We will not be watching this movie and frankly I’m shocked that in this time, all the people involved would consider a limb difference as scary and something to be hidden.

@lucky_fin_project @sarahherron thank you for your continued work in fostering confidence and self love in all our kiddos with a limb difference ❤️

Enough children stare and are scared of me because of my scars and hand without the new portraying disabilities to be scary too... it’s 2020!! So much for equality 🙄 SHAME

  14. In light of the posts going around about the new The Witches film, I thought it would be cool to start a thread of people with limb differences who are doing amazing things to spread some positivity. What do you think? @Melissa_Clare_J

  16. Another unnecessary depiction of limb differences to portray an “evil character”. Dahl’s The Witches doesn’t even mention missing fingers? I’m asking fellow film critics to call out this film for perpetuating stigma (image description in comments)

Please educate yourself on and the support the idea that you are because you look different! You can also actively support the limb difference community by using words that describe us as PEOPLE, as it’s not the difference that defines us.

Hey , thanks for your attempt to convince audiences people with limb difference (LD) are evil, scary and the villain. It's not like children with LD have much against them already
