    This piece on our mantle is of the lone Flag from Ground Zero. The original hangs in the museum! “Our Flag Was Still There” was taking when the photographer was photographing artifacts from 9/11 when the burned flag was found. I had to purchase to remind us daily

    Heartwarming sight at work today, 2 Firefighters asked if they could climb 110 floors to honor first responders who gave their lives 17 years ago today.

    “Hatred, disguised in false religious garb to murder innocents, will not prevail” — Mattis 17 yrs ago, ordinary people, given no time to decide, gave our country a gift. They saved lives & the US capitol. Not as soldiers, but as citizens. God bless them.

    I made a mental note to report it the following day. And I did -- it was their car. But I was too late to affect anything. I wonder if reporting the day before would have mattered. I'll always live with that thought, especially on the 9/11 anniversary.

    bc 17 yrs ago, today, insults graduated from “low life gas station worker” to “terrorists”. & no this isn’t a cry for sympathy. It’s just to bring awareness that this day, being a Muslim American, changed our lives too.

    It’s crazy to me that my high school didn’t say a word about 9/11. No announcement & no moment of silence. All flags were supposed to be at half-staff today yet my school’s flag wasn’t... makes me sad.

    The moment that I realized there were people in the building, that this wasn’t a clip of a movie, and that I was actually watching in real time people leaping to their deaths, changed me forever. I was in a literal stupor for DAYS after that moment.
