    The Morton Fire burning in the Southern Highlands for 29 days, has tonight been contained. The fire burnt out over 23,000 ha and destroyed a number of homes and buildings. It will continue to burn within unburnt pockets of bushland behind containment lines.

    At midnight, 64 bush and grass fires are burning in NSW, 27 still to be contained. The Calabash Fire in the Snowy Monaro remains at Watch and Act with all other fires at Advice. Crews will use more favourable conditions overnight to strengthen containment lines.

    EMERGENCY WARNING: Calabash Fire (Snowy Monaro LGA). The fire continues to burn near the areas of Tinderry, Calabash, Anembo and Jerangle. Firefighters remain in place protecting property where possible. Residents should seek shelter as fire approaches.
