    I was out looking for wildlife today for about 3 hours. Couldn't spot anything other than Sparrows, Mallards and swans. I was just about to give up and go to the pub, then I spotted some Mistle Thrush.

    Came across these 3 when I was checking sheep in the fog this morning; 2 and a . A was overhead and despite the gloom, the was singing in the woodland margin at the edge of the field.

    particularly noticeable y’day on the Lime at ! An important, declining habitat. Adds a splash of colour, too. The (red-listed) is fond of the berries & was in attendance.

    Watching a mistle thrush this morning, picking off the yew berries in the churchyard opposite where I am staying at the moment. Another and a redwing also feeding.

    I’m thinking ( Turdus viscivorus) as it was quite large and the belly spots are more rounded. Happy to be corrected if it’s a Song Thrush... always confusing 🤔🙄🙄😳

    The old name for a mistle thrush is a storm cock- after their habit of perching at the tops of tall trees during winter storms and singing mournfully. Have you heard one yet? ⛈📸

    Adult Mistle Thrush ringed as part of project. Bigger and more heavily spotted than the commoner Song Thrush.

  15. A trying start to the day was instantly brightened by the who flew down and sat on an elder bush 6 feet away from me, while I filled up the horses haynets.He's just arrived for winter and sings in the cherry tree in the garden to claim his territory. It is a joy!
