    Microscope technology is crucial to treating some of the most devastating diseases. Being able to observe how cancer cells respond to different treatments is helping doctors to treat patients more effectively.

    This cute little bug is a Pygmy backswimmer. The tiny little fellow is only about 3 mm in size, but have been magnified over 50 times!

    DNA during cell death (bottom) and cell division (top). We have found that counting nuclei with low magnification is difficult when some cells are dying. Dead cells are bright and round too; just like healthy nuclei. Fix? Go high mag like this example.

    I was struck by the way everyone at the in Dresden was regarded as part of the same team, including the barrista in the café when I was there for a workshop. She knew everyone's name and greeted us all with a smile.
