    Here's a Nikon dSLR shot @ 600mm (cropped) from today's , captured about an hour into it. That little dot on the lower left is Mercury, 62.8 million miles away, passing between Earth and the Sun. The next time this will be visible from my location is May 7, 2049.

    Mercury passing in front of the sun from our viewpoint on November 11th is a huge highlight this year in astronomy. We won’t see this again until 2032. Check out this 14 second (5 1/2 hours in real time) time lapse of the event.

    Mercury's nodes are in Scorpio (November) and Taurus (May). For a transit to occur, like an eclipse, the Sun and Mercury are conjunct in longitude, parallel in declination and at the same latitude. Diagram Fred Espenak.

    It was such a nice day, that I decided to take a picture of the ~every .5 hour, to see if I could make an animation. Did my best to match exposure and position for each image. It's pretty neat to see Mercury's trajectory across the face of the sun!

  19. A during the day and a full Moon at night! As winter sets in, this full Moon is called the Beaver or Frost Moon❄️ Technically, the Moon will be opposite the Sun at 13:34 UTC on November 12th, but it appears full tonight & tomorrow night.
