Did you know Mars has its own orbiting webcam?

Yesterday, the Visual Monitoring Camera #VMC onboard ESA's#MarsExpress took this cool picture of the entire Tharsis plateau with the four largest volcanoes in the solar system!

ESA's
#MarsExpress is closely tied to the festive season. The spacecraft entered orbit around#Mars on Christmas Day of 2003
It has since seen many winter wonderlands – including an ice-filled crater resembling a patch of fresh, untrodden snow.

News from the webcam in orbit at Mars!

The simple camera was designed with one mission: to get photos of the Beagle lander in 2003, yet it's gone on to provide masses of martian data & imagery, becoming an official #MarsExpress science instrument!
