Today was meant to be our wedding day. Unfortunately, COVID-19 put paid to our plans. However, we will still raise a toast to the freedom to marry and to the 1,201,607 Irish people who voted YES in the on that beautiful day in May five years ago!

  2. After the joy of & the dignified landslide that was I felt we’d morphed into a tolerant, open minded Ireland. Sad to see so much belittlement of those who celebrated the Pope’s visit . The institution is absolutely fair game. Ordinary Catholics aren’t.

This day 5 years ago I voted for the first time, and I voted for my own right to get married. The result was/is massive progress worth celebrating. But the months and years that lead up to it mostly weren't. Let us remember the human cost when fighting for social justice.

Non-LGBTQ people don’t realise that was actually such a stressful time and wasn’t enjoyable until the result was announced. The stress and anger reading such horrible things about my community from the “No” side for weeks is not forgotten even after such a landslide “Yes”

At the dialogue this morning and in the first 10 mins abortion has been referred to as 'difficult and divisive' even though 2/3 of people voted to , a bigger % than in . Not hopeful for the review when a Mnister is saying things like that.

In Galway City on the first few nights of canvassing for there was me, two non party political gay men, a member of the communist party and 4 Shinners, and SF continued to show up through the whole campaign. No sign of FF at all, and no sign of FG except for a photo shoot

5 years ago today, my granny Kitty Cotter, who was 101 at the time, put on her famous rainbow cardigan and went out and voted YES! I’m still so proud of her 🌈🥰

Lots of snide remarks on twitter today about who did most to win No need to be divisive about this happy occasion. There’s lots of credit to go round. And yes, that includes the Gov of the day. A referendum, of any kind, does not happen unless a Gov proposes it.

Just received my Belgian polling card for the . As happy as I am, I can't help but feel disappointed that there is no for Irish people abroad. Despite enthusiasm of in and , many of us have no national vote anywhere.

Remembering 5 years on, and can't let it pass without recalling Brighid and Paddy Whyte's message that struck a chord with a lot of people at the time. I think it really captured a lot of Irish people's attitude to the vote.

I've been in Russia over the past days. I attended a socialist feminist event at the weekend and did an interview with Russia Today TV. The & votes have been watched closely. I'm very impressed with bravery of the LGBTQ+ & worker activists I've met.

As a young queer women, the no campaign was the first time I'd seen the vitriol and hate people were capable of. I heard classmates who spoke in class against marriage equality, it broke my heart. The resounding yes vote really meant and still means so fucking much to me.

Let there be no doubt - a coalition of far right groups has been proposed. To borrow a phrase - "an axis of evil". Ireland is better than that. We We voted for We're only going forward.

5 years since Ireland said yes to love. Walking through town the day after the results I felt like Dublin was a totally new place. The sun was shining, there were so many LGBTQ+ couples walking around holding hands & strangers were smiling at one another in a knowing way
