    I'd guess that Dems would have narrowly lost this version of against GOP Rep.-elect Michael Guest in 2018. Dem Mike Espy won it by 3 points in the runoff, but GOP Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith & Chris McDaniel combined for a 52-48 GOP win in round one

    A runoff is a new election in which voters get to a fresh chance to look at candidates & evaluate them again. Its very different than asking voters about 2nd or 3rd choices. Also not all runoffs have lower turnoutm, 2014 GOP primary runoff had higher turnout than primary

    Mississippi had 3 senate elections in 2018: 1 regularly scheduled and 2 specials, the 2nd being a runoff after the 1st had no majority. While the candidates weren't shy about their parties, the specials had nonpartisan ballots. Here are all 3 are by congressional district.
