    We have high aspirations to ‘save the planet’ and yet struggle to start a conversation about how best to contribute to a fast and deep decarbonisation of our own practices. Time is running out and we need courage.

    I did some very enjoyable this morning. A 10 mile cycle ride got me a lifer - the Slavonian Grebe at Wroxham Broad. It was showing ridiculously well when we first saw it (not that my photos show it)! A few Tufted Ducks were also on the broad.

    The time to act has effectively passed now. Still, everything we do now, will make it less bad than if we don't act. Make a change.

    Train to/from for interviews on Fri, bus and feet around Edinburgh Sat–Sun, enjoying Otters, seaduck, Goosanders and more. Seems I walked 53 km/33 miles – no wonder my run-tweaked knee is now complaining bitterly 😱. can be a lot easier than this!

    I then spent a few hours searching for gulls, eventually getting my reward with c150 near Stratton Strawless. Could the attached individual be a Caspian? Later on, I saw c100 Starling, 5+ Fieldfare, 5+ Stock Dove and 2 Song Thrush. is getting better each time!

    More local today by bike: a showy Kestrel, Skylark singing & 2 Bullfinches at Abel Heath, a Buzzard, an Egyptian Goose & a Ruddy Shelduck hybrid at Blickling, a Buzzard, a Little Egret and 3+ Mute Swan at Burgh (but no Green Sand) & 2 Egyptian Geese at Oxnead.

    Goldeneye & singing skylarks take my year list to 98 today. Nice views of spotted redshank (dodgy phonescope clip)& ruff on new scrapes. Plus some new c-r godwits for this winter, perhaps early movers from elsewhere.

    If the man presenting the programmes can't be arsed to change and reduce his large carbon footprint, why should Joe Public watching them, with a much smaller carbon footprint, do anything? Be the change

  16. Biking and birding again today, three owl sp always a good start, roosting Tawny in its usual spot, two hunting Barn Owls and yelping Little Owl at a new site at dawn.

    Beautiful day: 81 species recorded on foot S of Titchfield village incl. 2 Sandwich Terns, 53 Eider, 2 RB Merg, 2 Barn Owls, 7+ Water Pipits, 35+ Redwing & more! Flat calm sea but no divers or auks etc.

    Walk from home this morning up to Old Sludge Bed reserve hoping for a Chiff, Siberian or otherwise. No luck. Treecreeper by the swing bridge & Marsh Harrier from Topsham Rec the best of it.
