    This mornings model runs on in the Caribbean support a major hurricane in the gulf next week. This already doesn’t look good for areas like the western Louisiana coast, where hit just last year. The anniversary of that storm is on Friday 👀

    Interesting that NHC decides to issue a special advisory. The new forecast landfall intensity is 135KT, but NHC does not rule out a slightly higher value (ie a Cat.5 landfall). Recon data are similar to what was found in , so the current estimate of 130kt is a good call.

    One year ago this morning... The last radar image of from before the radar was shredded. The radar was back online in January, two months ahead of schedule.

    I don’t think it’s being recognized enough that we’ve had 2 150mph storms make landfall in the same state in a year span. That is just ridiculous and almost as rare as it gets. and will be remembered for a long time. Remarkable

    One year ago today category 4 Laura made near Cameron, very early in the morning with 150mph winds making it tied for the strongest on record to ever hit Louisiana. unfortunately destroyed the radar in Lake Charles.
