    Today we honor civil rights hero Fred Korematsu. In 1942, Fred refused to go to the government's prison camps for Japanese Americans. After he was arrested and convicted of defying the government order, he appealed his case all the way to the Supreme Court.

  5. Fred Korematsu challenged Executive Order 9066 that forcefully interned 120,000 Japanese Americans during WWII, including members of my family. His story shines a light on this dark time and serves as a reminder of the power of a single person demanding justice.

    Today we recognize the Fred of Civil Liberties & the Constitution. We revisited his legacy at & the importance of his case with some of our members who played key roles in the successful effort to overturn Korematsu’s 1944 conviction.

  7. The 1st exclusion zone for Japanese-Americans was in WA state. By the end of World War II, nearly 120,000 people, including 70,000 U.S. citizens, were interned. is an opportunity to remember the bravery of Fred Korematsu & reflect on the past to avoid repeating it.

  8. Many people don’t know about Fred Korematsu’s story, but his brave fight against the injustice of the indiscriminate incarceration of 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry helped end one of the darkest times in our history. I commemorate because never again is now.

    As a Japanese American, I honor my community’s history on by working to end cruel migrant detention and fighting for civil rights for every community. Fred taught us that one person can make a difference- and it’s always worth the fight.
