When I think of Japan I think of peaceful fair people, I cannot believe how women accept rape as part of their lives, something they need to put up with. Good luck Shiori

was a really powerful documentary and I'd thoroughly recommend everyone watch it. I had no idea about the taboo surrounding sexual assault in Japan. It's truly awful.

show how Japan treats women who are rooted there. It shocked British people. I've been telling my friends in the UK about the issue in Japan, but there's so much one can do. I'm glad Shiori and BBC made the powerful documentary to reveal how corrupted Japan is.

Once I made a Japanese expat sacked when we were working for a Japanese mega bank branch in London because he molested and almost raped me when I asked him for career advice. Thankfully the bank had British HR officers. I'll fight again if that happens again.

Just watching and so saddening that attitudes haven’t changed a jot since I left back in 2004. Shiori is so brave to speak up and fight for what’s right

If you missed on BBC 2 tonight, watch it on iPlayer. Incredible story

I can't believe the things I'm hearing in this documentary Only 8% of police are female, not all hospitals have rape kits, consent is non-existent, girls getting groped on the train to SCHOOL & thinking its normal & men only allowed to 'allege' rape since 2017!

Shiori is incredible for speaking out about her rape in Japan, her incredible courage and that of her supporters is inspirational. For all the women who have suffered sexual violence, it's not much but I believe you

Shiori is my hero. What an amazing woman. I’m absolutely stunned about how women are treated in Japan

what an eye opener. Awful for Japan's women to have to live in that kind of society. Very disturbing watch.

  15. It’s time Japan woke up to sexual crimes against its women if they want to be considered a civilised society - thnx to brave women like

The attitude of Japanese society towards rape is really disturbing. How many other Shiori Ito's are out there, unknown to anyone other than themselves and their attacker? The courage and grace of Shiori in the face of almost universal disdain is amazing.

is so brave. For that other woman to laugh & blame Shiori is disgusting. Shame on Japan for not treating rape as the abhorrent crime it is.

  18. Completely shocked by on BBC2. I’ve been there twice and loved it. This would really put me off going back, I’d no idea rape and sexual assault victims were treated so badly there.

Japan suddenly dropped off my list of Must Visits. Watching & am horrified by its dismissive attitude to sexual assault. 8% of police force are women so when a rape victim files a charge they have to recreate the assault with a life-size doll

Watching is shocking and utterly heartbreaking. What really upsets me is women turning on each other. Instead of supporting the victim, they blame her.... Blame the man who committed the crime!
