My boy Mouse was a feral kitten whose mom we fed. During hurricane Florence, he got out of the back yard and in a span of 2 minutes:
Fell out of my mom's car (he crawled into the wheel well), almost drowned in the ditch, and was nearly mauled by the neighbors dog. I grabbed him

I actually got lucky and found the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters during hurricane Florence..
Also, the amount of aircraft in the air at a given time is crazy.

There are so many opportunities to make a difference and learn life lessons during the aftermath of a natural disaster. I share our experiences after Hurricane Florence with ideas to help families after other disasters.
During Hurricane Florence, the Waccamaw Refuge stored ~98 billion gallons of flood water.
This natural solution helped spare downstream communities from the extreme flooding that occurred upstream.

I rode out hurricane Charlie off the coast of Florida in a frigate. I was on duty during hurricane Florence with the ship tied up in port, we were out in the storm desperately trying to keep her tied to the pier.
