Teaching is selfless act. The most effective teachers advocate for their students and center their voices at all times. They understand that it’s not about them only the students. Shout out to the selfless ones!

Teachers are very undervalued and underappreciated, that's nothing new. So what makes us feel appreciated? The ability to leave work at home, the ability to do self-care without guilt, and the ability to be our authentic selves n the classroom.

Shout outs are cool, but they're kind of the equivalent of "thoughts and prayers". A few ways to tangibly support teachers: -Buy them stuff from their classroom wishlists -Volunteer your time -Email the principal and let them know how great a job the teacher is doing

I think about my students who have gone on to be teachers. Some of the kids they teach are going to be teachers. There's a special lineage there. Traditions and stories and methods that will live and evolve for decades, for centuries. A beautiful burden.

I hope that every teacher takes the opportunity to walk the neighborhoods where they teach so that they can feel and see the love and the impact.

What does our future look like in a world where our teachers have their financial needs met? their mental health needs met? their students needs met? their cultural needs met? LOADED.

Shout out to all the teachers who aren’t afraid to fail. Teachers who aren’t afraid to step out their comfort zone to find new ways to engage their students.

By appreciation, we don't mean "stuff." A raise would be nice, but not if it comes with an increased workload that doesn't match the pay raise. I'd take the same paycheck if I could do the things I love, come to work and leave work on time and be able to enjoy life.

My appreciation wishlist: -Time to plan lessons at school instead of on Sundays at home -PD that isn't a waste of my time -Ability to go to the bathroom -Time to eat lunch -Ability to collab with co-workers -Built-in time to get to know students and families

I DIDN'T have self-care when I started teaching. You know what happened? By year two, I couldn't perform as well. We give teachers WAY TOO MUCH TO DO, then make them feel guilty Pick a couple things you want to master, 'cause the system wasn't built for us to be great.

Shout out to the teachers who dared to be disruptive, who understand the importance of dismantling the system’s brokenness & who do so unapologetically 4 our Ss sake

Shouts out to everyone that weekly listen, love and lift up. This is the power, promise and potential of a community working in solidarity.

  18. May 7

We as the community can support teachers by welcoming them into our hoods and showing up at school “just because!”

Teaching is an act of love. When the relationship with Ss is steeped in relatedness, the giving and receiving (of love, knowledge, etc) is reciprocal.

To appreciate us means to give us more than free food hour for a short period of time after we've already had an exhausting day. Appreciate me by policy, procedures, valuing my minority babies, and allow me to teach without fear of failure.
