    Some parents like to be called Mum or Dad but for others they need to hear their name... as parents are part of the team we should endeavour to ask them individually and appropriately what they prefer.

    As a Nurse my first words to a patient are followed by asking the patient what they like to be called. As a relative who has had two family members seriously ill in hospital recently it makes such a difference to know who people are and what they are going to do

    please can you remind your out of hours GP’s about also explain what they want to do e.g. take a temperature before they try and do it. For a person with a learning difficulty it’s important to know who’s treating them.
