Rec of the day. Woman's Face, Joan Crawford's best melodrama. A disfigured woman joins a band of knaves but falls in love with the doctor that brings her face back to its Crawfordesque splendor. Glorious all around, and a special mention to Conrad Veidt. Directed by George Cukor.

With a sparkling surface and an undercurrent of melancholy, George Cukor's HOLIDAY (1938) is an enchanting ode to nonconformists and pie-in-the-sky dreamers everywhere, as well as a thoughtful reflection on what it truly means to live well.
