    is becoming a hurricane as the cyclone gains momentum. Every Somali person and the all government agencies should be prepared for the worst case scenario so that many lives are saved and the affected get timely help. May Allah s.w ease situation.

    LOOK: A new cyclone in the Arabian Sea has rapidly intensified, and is named Cyclonic Storm (03A). It was only recently named few hours ago and it's eye has cleared really quickly. This is one of the fastest intensifying TCs I have seen. It is expected to strike Somalia.

    While November cyclones are not unprecedented to , it is unusual to see a burst of rapid intensification prior to landfall. Especially to a Category 2-equivalent storm. Expecting casualties & extensive wind / flood damage in the Puntland & Somaliland regions.

    On theme with 2020 Tropical Cyclone rapidly intensified just before making landfall as a 90-knot Category 2 equivalent hurricane in Somalia. Before , there is no record of a hurricane landfalling in Somalia.

    I guess it's not surprising tropical cyclones force gravity waves into the stratosphere but the clarity in the GFS is still impressive to me. is shown below in 10 hPa heights. Can also see influence of what is now TC Four. see also:

    nearing . JTWC's intensity estimate of 100 knots seems reasonable. India Met Dept's estimate of 50 knots is frankly mystifying. I generally avoid publicly disagreeing with official agencies, but it's hard not to here: it's obviously much stronger than that.
