This week's
#MerriweatherMonday is Marjorie's 1948-52 evening dress. Marjorie's wardrobe followed the trend in the 1940s and brightened up with vivid colors like this pink, purple, and blue dress.@HillwoodMuseum#fashionhistory pic.twitter.com/iZHPTnypPy

For this 1998 design, John Galliano for Dior combined two features of
#fashionhistory - the Robe à la Française and the crinoline. It has a stomacher and over skirt, hinting to the 18th century, but underneath the skirt, there are large wire cages over nine feet wide.@metmuseumpic.twitter.com/MK2o6j2gLJ

Having eaten enough of my nephew’s birthday cake to sink a sizeable ship, I think sheer

Darling c1955 bathing suit by Carolyn Schnurer. Made for her "Destination Norway" collection, the cotton fabric used is reminiscent of a Norwegian geometric tapestry. Dreaming of warm days, frolicking poolside with a cold drink!

Changing aesthetics altering perceptions of the human form can make us view garments differently with hindsight. The layers of this
#1880s#underwear ensemble were never intended to be seen but their contrasting shapes are rather beautiful.@museumatFIT#fashionhistory pic.twitter.com/Bnay5DlWd6

Today's
#ootd is a 1915-20 Girolamo Giuseffi evening dress. The dress has draped layers of silk netting and satin that are highlighted with metallic thread and sequins. Absolutely gorgeous!@NewfieldsToday#FashionHistory pic.twitter.com/7NlO0AI9PU

In regency times, pineapples were still so expensive that hostesses sometimes rented them for the evening to decorate their tables. Pineapples abounded in art, architecture, and even fashion.

This week's
#TsarinaSaturday another of Feodorovna "house dress" from 1901-03. In fact, it looks more like a negligee as it's a made of silk muslin and tulle lace. The fit also looks loose and@state_hermitage#FashionHistory pic.twitter.com/WJ1cGSdMrF

One of my favorites - the robe à la française! This example is void of superfluous trimmings and the basic ruffles are the same bright canary as the rest of the dress. Stunning example of c1760 fashion. Bright, airy, and refreshing!
