    It leaves me cold when a newspaper celebrates last night’s vigil, while also dismissing every little measure designed to change the culture of toxic masculinity and entitlement that sets the preconditions for violence against women.

    Tonight I attended a vigil in Adelaide for and the more than 30 women killed in Aust this year alone. It’s time to stop blaming women and build a society where women are safe both in public spaces and our homes.

    If our government didn’t waste time dog whistling about fake problems like ‘African gangs’ and instead focussed on genuine issues like violence against women by aussie blokes, maybe she’d still be alive? 🤔

    Less than a month since & were murdered. If eight Australians had been killed in a single month in other circumstances – terror or negligence – tell me we wouldn’t have a task-force formed by now?

    Bearing witness. Paying respects. And grateful for the unbearable tenderness of three firefighters tending the flames. Let us keep each other’s fires burning. In memory of those lost, and in the work to eradicate violence against women, everywhere.
