Good evening & thank you. Yes, it is a lovely painting. Interestingly Lilian's future husband, Elwin Hawthorne also painted the same view which had the slightly simpler title of just "Cranham".

I thought I'd start today & the new week with one that I haven't shown for quite a while: this is "Church at Cranham" by Lilian Leahy from 1934. Lilian married fellow Group member Elwin Hawthorne in 1937.

Good evening & thank you. Ah yes, Bow in New Hampshire often turns up in my Internet searches when I'm looking for something in the East End! Here's one that I hope you'll like with a "Bow" theme: this is "Bow Bridge" by Walter Steggles.

How interesting & thank you. I seem to remember reading that Thomas Cromwell once owned Canonbury Tower & that it dates from between 1509 & 1532. Here's "Canonbury" by Elwin Hawthorne from 1934 which was the view from Canonbury Place towards Canonbury Square.

Good morning & thank you. Also in the collection here's "Wharf Houses" by Harold Steggles which probably dates from either 1931 or 1932. It depicts the Eastern elevation of the old Bryant & May factory in Bow.

Good evening & thank you. Yes, street lamps & other "street furniture" as we'd say today often form a key component in an ELG painting. Here's a classic example: this is "Warner Street" by Harold Steggles from 1935

Good evening & thank you: belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. Here's one of Elwin Hawthorne's original photos of the scene at Bow Road: this qualifies as art in its own right in my opinion!

Thanks for following the ELG Here's "Bow Road" by Elwin Hawthorne from 1931

The weather outside this doesn't look very "encouraging" so hopefully the view through the window in "Interior" by Brynhild Parker from 1930 might be more conducive to a better start to the week-end!

Good evening & thank you. Here's one that you're unlikely to have seen as I haven't shown it for a very long time, for reasons that I can't explain! This is "Badley Church, Suffolk" by Harold Steggles from 1936

Good afternoon & thank you: yes, it is superb. With your interest in gardening, I hope you'll like this sketch of "The Artist's Garden" by Walter Steggles.

With in the news this morning I thought I'd start today with "Windy Day on Marine Parade, Southend" by Brynhild Parker which is (rather appropriately!) in the collection

Good evening & thank you: that is most kind. Here's one that I hope you'll like which I haven't shown for a long time: this is "Grove Hall Park" by Harold Steggles from 1931.

Good evening Yes, the palette of colours & absence of human interest in the painting is often a key feature of ELG work. This painting of "Warner Street" by Harold Steggles from 1935 is a classic example.

Good morning My apologies if I've hastened the onset of winter for you! All joking aside, it is lovely to see a "new" painting like this. Here's one with more of a summer/autumn feel to it: this is "Near Navestock, Essex" by Elwin Hawthorne from 1939

I thought I'd start today & the new week with a "new" ELG painting! This is "Rounton Road, Bow" by Elwin Hawthorne from 1931. It was the view from Elwin's bedroom window at 11 Rounton Road where the Hawthorn family lived.
