On a personal note... I’ve been working on this for 20 years, since my first paper in 2000 making the first ever prediction of image sizes of nearby black holes. Such a sweet moment that’s been long time in the making...

@ehtelescope The Event Horizon Telescope is an international collaboration aiming to capture the first image of a black hole by creating a virtual Earth-sized telescope.

An experiment like the
#EHT really takes a village (or a globe?) This NYT article is trying to shed some light on that. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/04/11/science/katie-bouman-black-hole.amp.html … -
According to
@hfalcke the predicted size of the#BlackHole shadow is about 2x the size of the@ehtelescope resolution... So please don't expect to see a fancy hires picture like the "artist's impressions" currently shown everywhere. It'll rather look something like this...#EHT pic.twitter.com/SETORML2qI

#BlackHoleImage is a BIG DEAL! Why? Well, for starters it’s the first one - ever! Learn all about the elusive#blackhole in this episode of#AskAbby with#AspiringAstronaut@astronautabby! To watch, click HERE: https://bit.ly/2IfrKiM#BlackHoles#EHTBlackHole#EHT pic.twitter.com/nPiG7B74am

In just 5 hours you are going to witness thr first ever image of the Black hole at the centre of our
#galaxy But along with the Sagittarius A* of our galaxy there’s a second target too for the Event Horizon Telescope(#EHT ), and that is the Black Hole at the centre of galaxy M87. pic.twitter.com/YudBFKs5nP

Also included some throwback photos to when I visited one of the telescopes used for
#EHT in Spain last Autumn. Really gives a sense of scale as this is not even the biggest dish used!

First ever direct image of a black hole! The supermassive black hole in the galaxy M87 -- 6.5 billion times as massive as the Sun!
#EHT#BlackHole The image is better than I expected!pic.twitter.com/Tv7I36v4xQ

Yo it seriously sounded and felt like a tornado rolled through
#Eht -
This is M87* and this the first image of a black hole! Mass is 6.5 Billion suns within size of a solar system. Precious because real. Waited 25 years for this. Dark shadow is where light disappears in

Except only the iPhone Xs image is genuine. Some images must simply not be pimped

6 billion solar masses THIS IS A BLACK HOLE EVERYONE

Q for black hole astronomers.... what exactly is the orientation of M87* with respect to Earth? Are we seeing it "side on" or "top down" in layman's terms? Any idea what it would look like from the other view? I'm skimming the paper, but I'm getting myself mixed up.

Eppur si muove, Eppur si muove!!! This is simply gorgeous. I felt goosebumps when I looked at the image during the press release. Science is simply amazing. I always dreamed about this moment before becoming an
#Astronomer. Dreams come true! :)#EHT@ehtelescope#EHTBlackHolepic.twitter.com/es2WG38Izf

This photo of the black hole is awesome, but wait... Enhance! Hmm, enhance! One more time, enhance! Whoa. The biggest Cinnamon Raisin Bagel in the world, and it's still hot!

Today, the Event Horizon Telescope team will release the first ever image of a black hole :-) Below is a simulation of what an active black hole looks like.
