    Just brilliant to visit Arromanches today and the remains of the Mulberry Harbour with Jim Radford. Jim was here on as a 15-year-old Galley Boy aboard the Empire Larch, a merchant navy tug bringing over parts of the harbour.

  4. Right now, Paratroopers of the 37th Brigade Engineer Battalion are reenacting the Normandy D-Day landings during their Blood on the Water event as part of Eagle Week on Fort Bragg.

    This is Roy, veteran of North Africa & Sicily, he was wounded and taken prisoner in Italy; escaped, joined the Commandos and landed on Sword Beach on . He attacked Merville Battery right here on 8th June 1944. They don't make them like Roy anymore.

    We must all do our tri-Service duty. Southwick Park (Defence College of Policing & Guarding) is now rodent-free. A surprisingly large map, preserved in the old planning room, is interesting; must have been a lot of cats for all those ships?

    Have just left Amfreville where we stopped at a farm which was a Commando Battalion headquarters. The lady who lives there, 95 year old Madame Saulnier came out to visit our veterans and even remembered our Commando veteran Roy. What an amazing moment!

    Looking for D-Day knowledge. Taking my father-in-law to Normandy to see where his father landed, but how might we find out exactly where? He was Royal Artillery 45, I Troop, and sailed from Gosport.

    They were, in most cases, except where the terrain worked in favor of hit & run, not that effective. Certainly far less so than the armies that landed on

    Section of PLUTO (Pipeline Under the Ocean) recovered from Sandown Bay, Isle of Wight. Pipe was used for pumping fuel across English Channel to Normandy after D-Day. Was specially designed with multiple layers for strength and flexibility.
