So coopting a disabled role by a “known” actor was a business decision in exactly the same way as doing an American remake of a French film was: All about enriching yourselves. Let’s make sure this film tanks.

= nondisabled actors playing disabled characters. Stop applauding it. Stop supporting it.

  3. I recognize there's a dearth of opportunities for disabled actors, and that dearth is created by directing/casting laziness and by me and other abled actors taking their jobs, but I want money and an Oscar, so 🤷‍♂️ --

I'm annoyed with myself - the issue of actors/producers 'cripping up' had never really occurred to me. Thank you for bringing the issue to the fore so eloquently.

  5. Autistic community: We're human, please listen to us Netflix: Ok here's a autistic character saying "boobs" and "sex" for laughs

Because it's a misogynist nightmare that features a non-Autistic actor as Yet Another White Autistic Juvenile Boy. Because it's exploiting Autisticness to tell a story that is neither authentically about or for Autistic audiences.

When we protest abled actors , there are a lot of dots we’ve connected here. We know what we’re talking about.

I mean... No disrespect because I like the guy's work, too, but as a wheelchair user is not exactly a sign of acting skill and shouldn't be considered such.

  11. putting 99% of wheelchair users in clunky, heavy standard chairs means that is what people think they are like. heavy, restrictive, ugly devices of misery. it keeps disabled people from getting a wheelchair when they need one.

  12. You may have noticed I used the That's how we describe able actors who play disabled characters like an identity is a costume you can put on (Side note to white people: we can & should have this conversation without comparing cripping up to blackface)

Additionally, while abled audiences might think an abled actor is "believable in the role", Disabled audiences with lived experience are likely to notice a lot of problems. It's part of the reason is bad. It gives abled audiences false understanding.

  16. what pisses me off so much about the "the best actor gets the job!" argument with regards to is that... not a single abled actor playing a disabled role has ever done it well. EVER. if "the best actor" would get the role, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Dear & trolls: please keep repeating your ignorance and ableist bigotry here. is a world-wide concern of the disability community supporting the fair inclusion and employment of disabled people. But please carry on sneering. It shows exactly who you are.

Related, but please don't dress up using wheelchairs, canes, or any other form of either
