I really like The More the Merrier, now playing on #TCM. Charles Coburn and Jean Arthur work well together (see also The Devil and Miss Jones, made a couple years earlier). And of course Joel McCrea is always great. #TCMParty

Great direction as usual from George Stevens–he’s got a number of sublime shots–and photography from Ted Tetzlaff. Stevens’ hit many homers and this was a big time hit. Jean Arthur & Joel McCrea’s chemistry is off the charts. Charles Coburn superb. #TCMParty #ClassicFilms

Thoughts on THE MORE THE MERRIER (1943). A delightful comedy, starring Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea and Charles Coburn. Sexual politics may have changed over the years, but the essential emotional truth remains the same. Watch on Amazon Prime of $2.99

I recognize Charles Colburn (middle) He was unique; no one else fit his film roles. "The More The Merrier" 1943 comedy Available free on Youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=IP_wm5 [Not to be confused with a 2020 film with the same title, a raunchy sex romp]

Given how popular this film is, I always feel the need to mention that it’s still unavailable on Blu-ray and has yet to receive a proper restoration. How is that even possible? This needs to change. #TCMParty #themorethemerrier

What film never fails to make me laugh, ? Maybe not the whole movie, but I love this scene from "The Lady Eve." Barbara Stanwyck is the daughter of card sharp Charles Coburn, & is trying to protect Henry Fonda from being bilked.
Charles Coburn is an absolute f'ing treasure in this and the morning "getting ready for work" sequences are absolute hilarity. NB: There is anti-Japanese racism toward the end, including the pulling at the corners of the eyes and the slur J*p.

Considered director George Stevens' madcap movie, THE MORE THE MERRIER ('43) charts the rise of suburban life and neighbor culture through the WWII housing crisis. See it tonight at 8pm ET as we continue our spotlight on Movie Neighbors.
