    Happening now in Chapel Hill, North Carolina: Craig Stephen Hicks is arraigned on murder charges in the February 2015 shooting of Muslim-Americans Deah Yusor and Razan. The courthouse is packed, many from the local Muslim community standing in solitary with the families.

    I’m remembering how some of the white men in my newsroom scoffed publicly at the idea of calling this a hate crime as their own colleagues mourned the day after. I remember my ex-EP at the time calling me into his office to convince me the wasn’t a hate crime.

    "I just pulled my gun out and started shooting them," he described how the day went. "I walked over and shot her and the other one. Then I walked to my car and left." He keeps referring to the victims as "these people."

    I remember 4 years ago the of Deah, Yusor, and Razan. The shooting occurred inside their own home and by the time UNC or the police released a statement, most UNC students had already learned what happened via Facebook.

    4yrs ago today Deah, Yusor & Razan were killed execution style in their home in an act of hate that shook so many of us. Deah & Yusor were newlyweds & humanitarians. Razan, Yusor's younger sister was an aspiring designer.Their legacy lives on & is never forgotten
